Art Therapy

Art therapy can be used to help people improve cognitive and sensory motor function, self-esteem, self awareness, and emotional resilience. It may also aide in resolving conflicts and reduce distress.

Brainspotting

Brainspotting is a powerful, focused treatment method that works by identifying, processing and releasing core neurophysiological sources of emotional/body pain, trauma, dissociation and a variety of other challenging symptoms.


Brainspotting works with the deep brain and the body through its direct access to the autonomic and limbic systems within the body’s central nervous system. Brainspotting is accordingly a physiological tool/treatment which has profound psychological, emotional, and physical consequences.


Any life event which causes significant physical and/or emotional injury and distress, in which the person powerfully experiences being overwhelmed, helpless, or trapped, can become a traumatic experience. And Brainspotting can help. Types of clients we have used Brainspotting with: those suffering chronic illness, childhood trauma, sports performance anxiety, post concussion sydnrome, TBI.

For those with busy schedules or who are unable to attend therapy weekly or biweekly, Brainspotting intensives can provide the time and space necessary to process past trauma or distressing memories more efficiently. While traditional talk therapy sessions last anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour, Brainspotting intensives provide 2-3+ hours per session to access and process trauma with a trained Brainspotting clinician. These longer, more focused sessions can accelerate the healing process and allow for more time in between sessions while still being effective.

Couples Therapy

Pre-marital Counseling is brief and informative. Using a Prepare/Enrich assessment, a couple will be able to identify areas of growth and challenge to be better prepared for marriage. These sessions are conducted by certified Prepare/Enrich therapist Amber Summers, LMFT.

 

Marriage Therapy or Couples Therapy can be brief, solution focused, and specific, with attainable therapeutic goals to help couples resolve conflicts and improve their relationships. We also have therapists who use modalities like EFT, imago and Gottman.

 

Marriage Enrichment is for those who feel like they have a “good” marriage but feel like they want more. If you want a SIGNIFICANT marriage, marriage enrichment counseling is brief, solution focused and helps couples communicate better and have greater intimacy and connection. We typically use enneagram coaching as the main modality for enrichment. It is expected that these couples will have “tune-ups” or “check-ins” 1-2 times a year.

Enneagram Coaching

The Enneagram (Ennea=9, Gram=Diagram) is simply a map (GPS) for self-discovery and personal growth based on 9 basic personality types. The Enneagram accurately and clearly describes why you think, feel and behave in particular ways based upon your core fears and core desires.

The power of the Enneagram is in its ability to harness and transform self-limiting behaviors into life-enhancing personal empowerment. The gift of the Enneagram is that through self-discovery, one can create and sustain meaningful and lasting relationships with others and themselves.

You will take a free assessment and forward the results to your therapist who will then help you with “typing”. With your results you can become more self aware, learn communication skills for all of your relationships, and learn growth areas for your type.

EMDR Therapy

EMDR therapy is extensively researched and is an evidence based treatment for trauma and PTSD, as well as depression, anxiety, OCD, addictions, and a variety of other mental health disorders. Most clients experience relief in their symptoms in fewer sessions than traditional talk therapy, though talk therapy can still be integrated throughout the eight phases of EMDR.

 

 

Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR) is a unique approach to trauma therapy that does not require talking about the traumatic event(s) in detail. Instead, EMDR therapy utilizes bilateral stimulation (i.e., eye movements, tapping, buzzers, sounds) to stimulate both sides of the brain to access and adequately process the traumatic material and lessen the intensity of flashbacks, triggers, and other symptoms that impact one’s daily life.

 

EMDR therapy activates the brain’s natural adaptive healing process by targeting negative beliefs, images, emotions, and body sensations that occur during and after a traumatic event. Once these memories are appropriately targeted and processed, the brain is less likely to prematurely go into “fight/flight/freeze” mode when faced with future triggers.

Play Therapy

Play therapy is a structured, theoretically based approach to therapy that builds on the normal communicative and learning processes of children.

 

Therapists strategically utilize play therapy to help children express what is troubling them when they do not have the words to express their thoughts and feelings. In play therapy, toys are like the child’s words and play is the child’s language. Through play, therapists may help children learn more adaptive behaviors when there are emotional or social skills deficits. The positive relationship that develops between therapist and child during play therapy sessions can provide a corrective emotional experience necessary for healing (Moustakas, 1997).

 

Play therapy may also be used to promote cognitive development and provide insight about and resolution of inner conflicts or dysfunctional thinking in the child.
